Why I Fast

Here is my story

Early in 2020 I weighed myself one day. I was thirty pounds overweight. According to the World Health Organization my BMI was 27–29 which is overweight. Something had to change.

You can check your’s here https://www.bmi-calculator.net

I tried cutting my calories first. There seemed to be a mismatch between what my body gelt it needed and my energy levels. When I cut my calaories enough to start loosing wieght I found my energy levels were not adequate. Could not finish my work.

I tried exercising more as well. Because I had not been big on exercise when I was younger my body was not prepared for a strict exercise regimen. Of course I started low and slow in the hopes of building up a routine, but my body kept breaking from the load. Well not quite, but I did find myself with continual minor hurts.

So I needed a different plan of action.

Enter 16:8 fasting.

16:8 fasting if you do not know is the practice of waiting until 11 am to start eating and stop eating by 7 pm. The idea is you have 16 hours straight with no food consumption except water. Then you confine the time you are eating to 8 hours. There are several attainable health benefits to doing this. One is reduced inflammation and weight loss is another benefit.

What I found from doing this was not weight loss but also my eating improved. I did manage to eat less. That is a result of fasting. The reason I was able to eat less was that I was taking in calories when I was most awake and most active. When we eat late at night or early in the morning that does not coincide with our natural digetive rythm. This rythm is also tied to our circadian rythm of sleep. Our bodies are not ready to start digesting food early. When we eat when our bodies are ready for digestion more nutrients are absorbed. This leads to eating less.
