Quora Questions
Quora Digest after 3 months
have been writing on Medium for about a year now. Recently, three months back I wanted to try out Quora and see what would happen with my audience. On Medium my engagement suffered, of course.
Since I have not been writing as much on Medium my engagement has steadily decreased. This is to be expected. If you write and post fewer times the chances for new writers to find you decrease as well. I don’t subscribe to the myth you need to post every single day as some espouse. Post when you can and write content you would want to read, and maybe someone will find it useful. The point of this post is to show there is more than one way to build an audience online.
After three months on Medium, I had 1504 reads on my content. After three months of writing on Quora, I have just over seven thousand views on my content.
In terms of audience engagement you can tell that Quora seems to be where I am getting a lot of audience engagement. Medium is not even close you can see.
Can I gain the same number on Medium that I have on Quora? Maybe, there are definitely those who have started out on Medium and have done very well. Maybe they even started out with a bang on Medium. Back in 2020 or prior I would think.
The point of writing on Medium is different than answering questions or writing blog posts on Quora. Medium is supposed to be the best writing around, but often it is click-bait, amygdala triggering, side-winder writing that leaves you with little more knowledge than before you read the post. But it does pay better than most other platforms.
The most read writers can make thousands on Medium, but only the top 6% make over $100/month on the platform. If you are expecting to write here and make a living I would guess again.
The point of Quora is you can answer questions and help other writers or those learning yoga ( I write for one of the Yoga communities there) or whatever. You won’t get paid much for it though. On Quora, your reach would be more than Medium.
There are other ways to make a living as a writer and most do not do it on Medium or Quora. Being a freelance writer is one way. Being a content writer for a company is another way. These are more direct than leaving your living up to an algorithm or the whims of Medium curation.
The bottom line is your content will have more interaction and engagement on Quora than it will on Medium. But I do plan to continue writing on Medium. It is my content that will change.
Thanks for reading
