So there’s a new kind of NFT project in town. OG Crystals NFT project. There have been a number of new NFT projects launched lately and most of them do not gain enough traction in their Discord to make much of an impact at the time of minting. Or they are simply like every other NFT project out there. There is often not a lot of innovation in this space and a lot of copy-cat behavior.
What sets this project apart? The NFT once purchased will evolve over time algorithmically. So new characteristics of the crystal are revealed after the next purchase. This adds an element of rarity to each crystal. The usual format for NFT projects is the NFT characteristics are set at the beginning and revealed to the purchaser when minted through Open Sea or Rarible. The evolution only happens when the crystal is purchased. Transferring to another wallet does not change the NFT.
Minting of an NFT is the process of buying the NFT through Open Sea or Rarible. Once the NFT has been purchased it is transferred to the wallets of the new owner. In the wallet, the identity including rare aspects is revealed. The NFT is listed on an exchange so anyone can see what characteristics the NFT has. This is the process of minting an NFT.
OG Crystals also is building a community around the crystals. Not just through their discord — link to Discord is available on their website. As the crystals are repeatedly purchased and therefore traded the crystals evolve together forming a virtual reef.
It takes seven transactions or two months for all the characteristics of the NFT to become known. At that time of course the rarity and real value of the NFT is realized by everyone looking to invest in an NFT.
This is certainly different from most NFT projects that have values and characteristics that are set upon the time of mint.
Also, the project has already been launched. The official launch date was October 14th. There is still plenty of value in this project, but of course, do your own research.
Update 1/20/2022
All the NFTs have been created by this point. The project creators are in the process of creating VR models of each crystal for the owners and a 3D model of the crystal that will be put on display at museums worldwide. They continue to have contests and giveaways to keep the community engaged. The crystals are still available for trading too. So the community is continuing to grow.

Currently, they are also building their community fund which has now 7ETH in total. After the community fund then OG Crystals will create a DAO for the project as well.
