What can we as Haskell programmers look forward to for Haskell in 2022? The language we love to use for all major programming needs is growing more in 2022. Part of the reason for the growth is that the Cardano blockchain has finally launched its smart contract feature. Smart contracts let programmers create decentralized applications or dApps on the Cardano blockchain.

Conferences

ZuriHack 2022

A hackathon and not a conference. It will take place in June this year in Zurich from Saturday, June 11th — Monday, June 13th. The speaker's schedule is still tentative but there should be more news soon on what to expect. It is a chance to meet in person those programmers you had been interacting with over on Reddit in person now.

And being in Zurich for a summer weekend should be a fun time to be there. Should restrictions be lifted that is.

International Conference on Functional Programming

Held in mid-September this year in Slovenia. Not strictly speaking a Haskell conference but as a functional language, Haskell is discussed here. There is even a workshop on Haskell this year for Haskell Implementors.

Haskell Exchange

Has plans to return in 2022. Looks like it will be a combination of online and in-person talks and workshops this year. Last year it was strictly online and went for nearly one month long. The dates for this year have been set for November 1st — November 30th.

Functional Conference 2022

Held in Asia and online during March this year. From March 24–26 you can attend in person or online. Edward Kmett is presenting a talk on Why Haskell. As a general functional conference, FC 2022 covers other functional languages as well such as Elixir and Java, Ocaml, and C++ as well.

Trends in Functional Programming

The dates for this conference have been moved back to March as opposed to February. It will be held in Krakow Poland this year. I put this here because the keynote address sounds very compelling. It will be given by Christiaan Baaij on building a Haskell-to-Hardware compiler. Using the Clash is a functional language in a Haskell library.

Yow! Lambda Jam

Their goal is to bring together internationally recognized speakers and authors into one place to foster excellence and innovation in development with functional programming languages. At this point, there are no dates listed on their site so I would check back to find out more in the future. Held in Australia too.

Lambda Days

Also being held in Karkow Poland this year at the end of July. The list of speakers and events is already listed on their site for you to peruse and view. It will also be held as an online event as well. TIFP will not be part of this conference even though it is in the same city this year.

Haskell Summer of Code

Google Summer of Code which hosts and sponsors the Haskell Summer of Code workshops is about mentoring students and individuals who are looking to expand their knowledge, those thinking of jumping into programming as a career, and those who are programmers but also want to start working more with open source software or OSS.

Haskell Love

This happened last year and no word yet if it is coming back for a repeat performance.

I hope this list of conferences in one place is something you can refer to during the year. Bookmark it to keep track as I will update this list during the year as new conferences or major changes to the language come to my attention.

Also, if you are not a Medium member and you would like to gain unlimited access to the platform, consider using my referral link right here to sign up. It’s $5 a month and you get unlimited access to my articles and many others like mine. Thank you.
